The Bookmobile: A Historic Perspective

Fifteen interviews with retired and active librarians and library directors, library volunteers, former governor Lawrence W. Wetherby, and Librarian James Still relate the history of the bookmobile - how communities helped to start and promote the program - and offer stories and anecdotes about their experiences.

Kentucky has been on the cutting edge of oral history for decades. KOHC began in 1976 as a way to tell the stories of Kentuckians from all of its one hundred and twenty counties. In 1992, the Kentucky General Assembly placed the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) in charge of administering KOHC. Today, KHS and KOHC strive to continue uplifting the voices of Kentuckians from all backgrounds through oral history.
