Mercer County African American Heritage Oral History Project

The Mercer County African American Heritage Oral History Project documents African American life in a rural central Kentucky community. Eight interviewees born in the 1940s and early 1950s discuss childhood, education, employment, religious life, segregation, desegregation, and the Black community.  An audio recording of the congregation of Dividing Ridge Baptist Church singing provides insight into African American gospel music and faith.
