Walter begins a series of interviews discussing his vast knowledge and memory of Harlan County history, including early Harlan County life, coal mining, the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), politics, early churches and schools and early settlers of Cranks, Kentucky. His parents were Felicia Ledford and Cary SKidmore and he was born in Bobs Creek, KY in 1925. He is a retired coal miner.
