Platt came to Kentucky with the military, after being the only black man in an all White unit in Japan. He married a Kentucky woman and when, In 1968, he retired from the military, he decided to built a house in Henderson. He served as a Job Corp Manager for 23 years. He describes Henderson as having few civil rights problems, but tells of a few incidents where he and the NAACP solved problems with relative ease. Transcript available.
