Zander went from a small town in Southwestern Virginia to Junior College in Tennessee and then became the first African American (following the repeal of the Day Law) to graduate from Berea College. She speaks of the difficulties she faced as a minority person at Berea, in securing employment following graduation and of the people who provided support during that time. She tells also about her thirty years in Arizona and occasionally returning for alumni activities at Berea College and of helping found a Black Cultural Center in Virginia. Transcript available.
