Jessie Edwards taught school in Hopkins County before integration in white schools. She was the principal of Pride Elementary when the school enrolled its first black students in 1958. This drew protesting crowds and many personal threats to Mrs. Edwards. Tom Edwards attended Pride Elementary when the first black students enrolled there in 1958. His mother was principal of this school at the time. He discusses the intense first days at Pride and further integration measures in the school district. Transcript available.
