He also discusses volunteering spiritual guidance to men in a drug and alcohol recovery program. He witnessed fights between blacks and whites. He took human relations courses in the Marines and became an instructor to help with cultural differences. He is the son of Frances Cherry and James T. Washington. He was born in Lexington, KY in 1948.
