Payton also describes being part of the Mother's Aid Program, which included regular appearances in juvenile court and visits from a case worker. Payton also discusses the contacts she made through her work in the hospital and life in the cottages including Mrs. Dempsey, the cottage life supervisor, and Frankie Kirk, a case worker. Other topics discussed include the sponsor system, citizen system, disciplinary action, school and cottage activities.
