Reverend David Pettie recounts his young years growing up in Hopkins County, Kentucky, and marrying a classmate of his. He discusses his early awareness of segregation and the impact that segregation had upon him and his family. Pettie describes the struggles his daughters faced when they attended an integrated school in Sturgis, Kentucky. He also describes the actions of city officials and school superintendents during integration as well as his own participation in the NAACP at this time.
